When you have kids, it seems like somebody is always supposed to be selling something. There’s usually a few magazines or ad sheets laying around with everything from candles and chocolate covered pretzels to wrapping paper and grapefruit. Most of the items you probably wouldn’t’ buy anyway and definitely wouldn’t probably buy at the price they are asking for the item if it wasn’t for a youth group fundraiser.
When the economy is suffering , non essential items are definitely not a high priority. The items you want to look at to sell should be more practical items such as gift cards to fast food or grocery stores. Try putting together value added sales with extra coupons that can be for another store that you can get for free. For instance, try selling a gift card to sonic for $10.00 and adding a few coupons to for cleaning items. Manufacturers like Proctor and Gamble usually have coupons if you just ask.
People need to see value in youth group fundraisers. Think about items that you use everyday. The deals you have received on these items. That is what you want to package and that is what you want to sell.
Write or email major manufacturers for coupons for a fund raiser. These can be added to the gift card you are selling. Take a look around ebay for coupons. Lowe’s coupons are a big draw. If you want to know what people are buying, take a look at eBay. Then pattern a package for your youth group fund raiser off of that.
For instance, how about a Sonic gift card for 10 dollars with a 10% off coupon from Lowe’s and a free sample coupon for detergent? Not very hip, but something people will use.
Think practical when putting together youth group fundraisers. It will make the difference in what your youth group fundraisers will bring in for the projects. It’s always about the bottom line after, all.
